Why I Like Strava
When I first started cycling, the only tools I had to track my progress were my gut instinct and maybe a stopwatch. Fast forward to today, and tools like Strava have revolutionized how I ride. Initially, I found modern technology intrusive, but after trying Strava, I’ve grown to appreciate its value and even enjoy its functionality.
While I resisted modernization at first, I now embrace the features Strava offers. From assembling data points to generating detailed graphs and fostering community connections through KOM (King of the Mountain) and Local Legend rankings, it’s become an indispensable tool in my cycling routine.
To collect my data, I use the Wahoo Elemnt Bolt and Wahoo sensors. These tools are excellent on their own, but when paired with Strava, they create a seamless experience—a match made in heaven. Together, they provide accurate metrics and real-time performance tracking, making every ride more insightful.
One feature I love is Strava's segment tracking. On a ride last week, I noticed I was just seconds away from beating my personal best on a local hill climb. Strava’s tracking motivated me to push harder and set a new record for myself. It’s not about being the fastest overall but about consistently improving on my own performance.
Tracking my metrics has turned every ride into a personal challenge. Even on casual rides, I find myself striving to do better, logging data, and discovering new ways to push my limits. Strava has transformed my rides from routine exercise into exciting opportunities to see what I’m capable of achieving.
Personally, I love being the Local Legend on my routine workout routes, which helps me stay active. You may be wondering how something as minor as a Local Legend title can be a significant motivator. For some, it may not be, but for me, when I’ve been off the bike for a while and log into Strava to see my title is at risk of being taken, it motivates me to get back out there. Even if I can’t beat the KOM for now, I can still hold onto my Local Legend title.
If you’re a cyclist or runner and haven’t tried Strava yet, I highly recommend it. It’s more than just a tool—it’s a community and a motivator. Let’s connect and share our journeys!
